A Godby (God-be) With Us Stamper posed a question to me. She really liked the brown bag with the Hearts a Flutter Framelits die-cut heart pictured in the 2013 Stampin' Up! Spring Catalog on page 13.
But, the die-cut heart she preferred for its size is the Scalloped Heart of Hearts Embosslits Die. Her creative mind was busy at work. She wondered if the Embosslits Die could be unhinged and use the side that does the die-cutting.
I called Stampin' Up! The answer was the Embosslits Dies are not designed to be used that way. It was not recommended. If chosen to try it, it would not be replaceable under warranty. That is understandable.
But, now I was curious. Before I share with you what I did, be assured I would not normally risk an $11.95 die after being told it was not recommended. I had a Beautiful Wings Embosslits Die that was not in the best shape and had a second one. If you are wondering, for the experiment, I used the not in the best shape die. 🙂
I laid it flat on the Multipurpose Platform with a Cutting Plate under and over the Embosslits Die. I did not unhinge it first.
Tried it on Tab 1 and it was not tight enough to do anything.
Then on Tab 2, with the same sandwich, it did die-cut.
But, it also broke the hinges and the frame around the die. Rut-ro. I think even if I had unhinged it first (not sure if I could have gotten the pin out), the hinge still would have been crushed.
Okay, so it did die-cut. Problem still not solved. If we tried to use it like a Framelits Die on paper, it leaves an embossed rectangle for the die case.
Not so pretty.
The moral to this story, listen to recommendations. 🙂
How did my Beautiful Wings Embosslits Die get into not such great shape? Come back tomorrow. I will show you why and how to avoid letting it happen to your Embosslits Dies.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if I may be of any assistance to you.
Stamping Smiles,
Now you know not to try this at home with your Embosslits Die.
