When you think of washi tape on handmade greeting cards, cute, modern, fun probably come to mind, but did you ever think you can make elegant cards with washi tape?
The elegance started with the gorgeous Stampin’ Up! Vintage Leaves Stamp Set. The maple leaf stamp is heat embossed with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder and die-cut with the coordinating Leaflets Framelits Dies in my Big Shot Die-Cutting Machine.
Next came the design. A clean and simple card was decided followed by using the gold washi tape from the Stampin’ Up! Winter Wonderland Designer Washi Tape. It’s from the 2015 Stampin’ Up! Holiday Catalog.
The white and gold was looking quite nice but thought a splash of color would make it better. The Rich Razzleberry strip of washi tape was just what it needed. Would you believe it’s from the Happy Haunting Designer Washi Tape pack? My elegant cards with washi tape is an all occasion card with Christmas and Halloween washi tape.
See the splatter of ink? It was made with a Rich Razzlebery Stampin’ Write Marker in a Color Spritzer Tool. Stampin’ Up! carried the air brush tool for years. It’s such a cool tool that even though they retired it, I hung onto mine. They’re still available to purchase on Amazon.
The closer you are to the paper, the closer the splatter, the further you’re back from it, the wider the splatter. On white cardstock, you’ll want to be further back. If you get close, it can overtake your focal point instead of enhancing it.
The finishing touch was to add Gold Baker’s Twine. A card with all that white and gold going on with a little splash of color. Pretty.
The card base is with the new Thick Whisper White Cardstock. Still incredible for beautiful stamped images with a sturdier cardstock. I looks richer too. So impressed with it that when I use it for the card base I also use it for the layer. It’s especially nice when added ribbon or trim because you don’t have to be as careful to not tie too tight.
Monday, November 16, the 2015 Stampin’ Up! Holiday Catalog Retiring List will be released. Expect to see both the Winter Wonderland Washi Tape and Happy Haunting Washi Tape on it. Washi tape rarely, if ever, gets carried over from one catalog to another. Retiring accessories will be available only while supplies last.
If you want to make my Vintage Leaves elegant cards with washi tape, you’ll want to order the Winter Wonderland and Happy Haunting Washi Tapes before they’re retired and gone for good in my online store www.shopwithshelly.com.
Oh, need the Vintage Leaves Stamp Set too? It and it’s coordinating Leaflets Framelits are offered in a bundle for 15% off both! Order those while you’re picking up the washi tape.
