Easter is only three weeks away. Plenty of time to make my sweet and easy handstamped Easter Lamb card!
Look at that sweet face! This you-just-want-to-hug-him lamb is the new Stampin’ Up! Easter Lamb Stamp from the 2016 Stampin’ Up! Occasions Catalog.
Even though the patterned paper for this Easter card is fantastic, it does its job of enhancing and drawing your eye to the lamb first. So, let’s talk about him first.
Wanting a softer color than Basic Black, that sweet lamb stamp was stamped with Soft Suede Classic Stampin’ Pad ink. Classic Stampin’ Pads are water-based dye ink pads and not waterproof like the Basic Black and Basic Gray Archival Stampin’ Pads.
You can get away with watercoloring with a non-permanent ink with your choice of colors and don’t use a lot of water. Because lambs are not always lily-white, I added a soft touch of Crumb Cake Classic Stampin’ Pad ink on his wool and legs. If the Soft Suede color bled a little, it would not have been at all obvious. Giving a touch of color to the body and legs also helped him stand out against the Whisper White Cardstock.
Blushing Bride Classic Stampin’ Pad ink was used to watercolor the inside of his ears. Just try not to touch the lines and you’ll be fine. Mint Macaron was added for the grass. Color next two and between the leaves of grass to prevent bleeding. And if a little bleeds, well, that’s just the dirt that allows the grass to dry. 🙂
The “happy easter” greeting is also much softer, but still very readable, in Soft Suede instead of Basic Black.
Now let’s chat about the fantastic patterned paper. Both patterns are from the English Garden Designer Series Paper. The flowers look like tulips and very spring-like. The watercolored Soft Suede lines set off and compliment at the same time the tulips quite well while coordinating with the lamb. Now that’s what we’re virtually always looking for when using patterned papers on our handmade cards.
