After sharing my Christmas birdhouse card, someone suggested reimagining the design for Halloween—and what a fantastic idea it was! I had a blast adding a spooky twist to my birdhouse card using the Stampin’ Up! Playful Ghosts Stamp Set and the Halloween Spells 12″ x 12″ Designer Series Paper.

Creating the Card Base

I initially planned to make another hinged card, but as I decorated the birdhouse, the design evolved into a full-size DIY Halloween card (measurements below) to make room for the flying ghost. So, let’s dive into how I transformed the birdhouse into a Halloween centerpiece!

Decorating Process

I thought the striped pattern with scattered dots, trimmed with other designs from the Halloween Spells DSP, would be perfect. But it turned out to be a bit overwhelming, so I switched back to embossing Two-Tone Cardstock. Thankfully, I couldn’t find the Timber 3D Embossing Folder I used for my Christmas birdhouse because that’s when I spotted the Hammered Metal 3D Embossing Folder. And just like that, I created a weathered tin birdhouse by lightly sanding the embossed white-core cardstock.

The Birdhouse Additions

Every Halloween birdhouse needs a large moon with a flying ghost. 🙂 The friendly ghost was colored with Stampin’ Blends (colors listed below) and easily fussy-cut with Paper Snips. The moon was made from Basic White Cardstock die-cut with the largest circle die from the Stylish Shapes Dies. The clouds, which are part of the Stampin’ Up! Playful Ghosts Stamp Set, were originally stamped in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink. However, I decided to tone it down with Basic Gray Classic Stampin’ Pad ink so the ‘Boo’ greeting would stand out better.

Adding the Finishing Touches

The striped pattern with scattered dots from the Halloween Spells 12″ x 12″ Designer Series Paper worked perfectly as accent pieces for trimming the birdhouse. The pumpkins on the ledge are another fun detail from the Playful Ghosts Stamp Set. For a bit of sparkle, I added glittery purple accents using the Purple Fine Shimmer Gems.
