Have you ever purchased a stamp set because the sample in the catalog really caught your eye? The Stampin' Up! Serene Snowflakes card was one for me. When my pretty new stamp set arrived for me to play with, I started off with the catalog sample. Keep reading to see what adjustments I made to the original design.
My first adjustment to the design was to make a 4-1/4" x 5-1/2" Christmas card instead of the 3" x 6" card in the catalog.
I kept the color combination of Kraft and Bordering Blue. I looked at the Holiday Mini product guide, posted on the right on my page, to find out what color ink was used to stamp on the Kraft card stock in the sample. It sure looked like it was stamped in Kraft ink, but we do not have such a color. It was Sahara Sand!
From there on, the changes kept coming. I changed the Whisper White Taffeta Ribbon to Kraft Taffeta Ribbon. The Kraft card stock was giving me the country feel, and I wanted to compliment it with Kraft ribbon.
With the change of the card size, I felt my card looked blah with just the greeting like the sample. So, when I added the largest snowflake stamped in Night of Navy, I had my design.
The white peeking out under the Bordering Blue was also replaced with a strip of Night of Navy card stock. The group of three snowflakes stamped with the Frost White Shimmer White Paint finished off my card. Here it is!
So often I hear from stampers that they are just not creative. I am sure it is not true. How many times have you looked at a sample and thought it would be better if . . . ? That is your creative side! To get your creative juices flowing, start with a card design you like and tweak to make it your own. Before you know it, you will start looking at a stamp set and seeing the possibilities!
