I have to admit I was surprised when Simple Birthday Thanks was not one of the retiring stamp sets on the Stampin' Up! Last Chance List released on June 1. Not because I don't think it is so adorable, just it had been around for a good while. Then, sure enough, June 21 Stampin' Up! announces it missed a couple of stamp sets that should have been included on the Last Chance List. Simple Birthday Thanks being one of them.
I was first drawn to this stamp because of how cute it would be for children to write a thank you note. I don't think I have ever received a thank you note from a child, but when we were children, we could not play, spend or use our birthday gifts from anyone outside the household until the thank you note was done. I am thankful to my mother for teaching us to express our gratitude in writing. Those are the lessons you use throughout your lifetime.
A story to share with you: my parents and little brother came to visit us when we were in Fort Wayne, Indiana. We had an elderly neighbor we adored. During their visit, he gave my little brother (probably 16 or so then) a $2 bill. He told him to put it in his wallet and not to spend it. Then he would never be broke.
As trained, my little brother sent a thank you note to our friend. Our friend told me he had received it and that it wasn't necessary. "But", he said, "I sure can tell he was brought up right." That memory still makes me smile.
I guess these days long distance calls are not a big deal anymore. Between unlimited calling plans, cell phones, email and Facebook, to acknowledge a gift, the handwritten thank you card from children are pretty much a thing of the past. Guess I am showing my age to share I think that is sad. Who doesn't still love receiving a hand written note?
Now, in my card idea with the Simple Birthday Thanks stamp does not have the adorable greeting included. I masked it off to make a birthday card for a friend. Here is a larger image of the stamp so you can appreciate the adorable fill-in-the-blanks greeting.
Is that not just one of the cutest things you have ever seen? Imagine the chuckle of the one receiving a card made with this stamp set. A thought just came to me, how funny would it be to use it for thank you card for all those gag gifts given at Over the Hill birthday parties?!
Anyway, here is my Simple Birthday Thanks card idea.
