Mother's Day is in just a few days.  I had this idea in my head to use the Stampin' Up! Inspired by Nature stamp set (retiring on May 31, 2012) to make a butterfly bush for my mom's Mother's Day card.  Have a look!

For those of you who know better what a butterfly bush really looks like, I took creative license.  The only flowers I'm good at naturing our ones I can stamp or die-cut.  In this I am not my mother's daughter.  I inherited many qualities but not the green thumb.

My thinking was to stamp the grass stamp from Inspired by Nature.  Well, I stamped over and over all over but with the stamp in the same position.  There was a lot of grass.  Needing it look bushy, I masked off the two lower edges of the card at an angle and then stamped.  Wiser now, I also stamped at different angles too.

With the grass smaller at the bottom and gradually getting wider towards the top, it looked so much more like a bush.  The blunt edge from the masking was not quite right.  So you just need to stamp the top part of the stamp for some fill in.

Now that I had my "bush" I only needed to die-cut a whole lot of butterflies.  The small embossed butterflies from the Beautiful Wings Embosslits Die were just perfect for my butterfly flowers.  With the Beautiful Wings Embosslits Die used with the Sizzix Big Shot Die-Cutting Machine, you can very quickly emboss and die-cut several butterflies at a time!  Did you get that?  Embossed and die-cut at the same time!  Huge time-saving products.

Okay, I know butterfly bushes are called that because they attract butterflies and not because their flowers look like butterflies.  But, you have to admit this is pretty funny.  For we non-green thumbers anyway.  Hope my mom appreciates the thought behind my handmade Mother's Day card.   I does show I indeed pay attention.

Inspired by Nature is a beautiful stamp set.  The grass stamp has been used for many, many different applications.  A real favorite are the cattails.  The other large stamp is the one with the handsome cone flowers.
