Have you played with washi tape? Because it is so popular, I thought most every cardmaker had. Turns out it is not the case. Using washi tape on your handmade cards is an easy way to add a splash of color in a variety of patterns. The desired look most always seems to be raggedly torn edges. This handmade card demonstrates that look quite well.
At first, I could not bring myself to have a rugged edge. If you have “issues”, no worries. You can still have fun using washi tape on your handmade cards. I made several that went clean edge to clean edge. What helped me to finally be able to leave a ragged edge was stamping with the Tape It Stamp Set. All the stamps in the set are different patterns and lengths of washi tape with ragged edges. The cards turned out so adorable that I decided it can sometimes look appropriate. Wow, for as silly as I can be, I sure can also be a stuffed shirt. 🙂
Let’s talk about the Gingham Garden card a bit more. The greeting on this Gingham Garden Designer Series Paper and Washi Tape card is from the Stampin’ Up! Really Good Greetings Stamp Set. It sits nestled in between strips of Gingham Garden Designer Series Paper (my favorite paper from the 2013-2014 Stampin’ Up! Catalog) and strips of Gingham Garden Designer Washi Tape.
Washi tape is translucent. You can see other patterns through it. The artist of this card did not overlap any of the Gingham Garden Washi Tape with more washi tape, but she did overlap it onto the strips Gingham Garden Designer Series Paper. In the picture below, you can easily see how the pattern of the designer paper shows through the washi tape.
Did you notice the embossed polka dots in the strips Gingham Garden Designer Series Paper? You can tell by the patten of the embossed dots on the decorative paper and white card stock that the designer paper was adhered to the white card stock before embossing. The designer paper almost looks fused into the Whisper White Card Stock.
