Just had to make this gorgeous Stampin’ Up! Gorgeous Grunge card when I saw it. My first reaction was “Wow, that’s pretty!”. My second was “Wow, that’s easy!” Pretty and easy is always a good thing in cardmaking.
If we are what we stamp, does that make us pretty easy?
Putting aside that brain teaser :), this Gorgeous Grunge card is a beautiful way to show off the deep, rich 2014-2016 In Colors. Many said Stampin’ Up! could not top the yummy 2013-2015 In Colors. I agreed it would be a tough act to follow. The new In Colors are quite a contrast with Blackberry Bliss, Mossy Meadow, Lost Lagoon, Tangerine Tango and Hello Honey. Stampin’ Up! did good. We are going to appreciate these new colors even more as we move into fall and winter cardmaking.
Each of the butterflies are resting upon the ink of the same color. The original artist could have easily paired the butterflies with a different color. I like the simple look of color on color. You can also easily see how well the ink coordinates with the cardstock. Colors that coordinate well make for cards that are pleasing to the eye. You’ve seen cards that should be pretty but are off, not quite right. Many times it’s because the colors clash.
The butterflies were made with the Elegant Butterfly and Bitty Butterfly Punches. You can see the Bitty Butterfly layered on top of the Elegant Butterfly in the top three. As the colors got deeper with the Mossy Meadow and Blackberry Bliss, it’s not as easy to see in a photo. Gorgeous in person.
The ink splotch you see is just one stamp. It’s one from the Gorgeous Grunge Stamp Set. Would have thought an ink splotch could be this pretty? When using the rich and beautiful 2014-2016 In Colors and the butterfly punches, it sure is!
