To write my review of the new Precision Base Plate for my September edition of The Stamper’s Insider, I set out to learn more than the description in the 2015 Stampin’ Up! Holiday Catalog provided. I started my research with what Sizzix had to say about it.
Oh, the delight to read with the Precision Base Plate in addition to paper and cardstock you can cut through craft plastic, fabric, thin cork, craft metal and more. I was really getting excited about my purchase.
Felt is fabric, right? My goodness, my Flower Fair Framelits Dies cut through felt like it was butter using the Precision Base Plate with my Big Shot Die-Cutting Machine. Nice, clean cuts.
The article was writing itself as I designed an adorable card.
I was so excited to be sharing this fun discovery, my seriously cute Flower Fair Framelits card and had already started a project for my 12 Weeks of Christmas series exclusive for the subscribers to The Stamper’s Insider!
The day I was to release my September edition of The Stamper’s Insider, Stampin’ Up! had a new video about the Precision Base Plate. It said to only use your Precision Base Plate with intricate Thinlits Dies and NOT Framelits Dies (outline dies) because they will warp. No! This can’t be! My card is so cute!
Although bummed my newsletter article was tanked, I sure was happy that I learned this before any of my readers warped their Framelits. I watched on video where the presenter said it wasn’t a big deal. It is when you have stamp sets that coordinate with your Framelits. Having them lay flat is key to getting the Framelit centered around the image.
Perhaps it took Sizzix time to figure out the warping problem because did you notice on the picture of the Precision Base Plate at the top Framelits are pictured? Now look at the Precision Base Plate I received from Stampin’ Up!
Only Thinlits are pictured. Oh, and when I went back to read the description from Sizzix, it did read intricate Thinlits Dies. I obviously go too excited when I read metal, cork, fabric and so on.
So, please DO NOT die-cut any Framelits Dies with your Precision Base Plate, especially if they have coordinating stamp sets. Sizzix and Stampin’ Up! tell us not to. Despite the one video with the presenter saying we can, I have no idea what the long term results would be to your die if you did.
Through my hours of research I learned more tips. But they will need to wait for another day.

Is it possible to remagnetize a precision plate? How?
Hi! Sorry, I have no idea how to magnetize the Precision Base Plate. Because we should only be using it with thin, intricate dies, such as Thinlits Dies, the placement usually doesn’t need to be as precise as when centering a Framelits Die around a stamped imagine.
In the case of wanting precise placement with a Thinlits die, such as the Floral Detail Thinlits Dies, you can use a Post It Note, washi tape or painter’s tape if you’re concerned the die will move while running it through your Big Shot.
