Some card designs call your name, don’t they? That’s what happened when I saw this charming Stampin’ Up! Cake Fancy card sample in the 2024-2025 Catalog. I was so taken with it that I couldn’t resist ordering the stamp set to recreate it myself. And I’m so glad I did! Today, I’m sharing all the details so you can make this sweet and simple birthday card, too.

Start with the Sentiment and Cake Stand

I began by stamping the greeting and cake stand first. Here’s why: I aligned these elements at the beginning. This gave me a solid starting point to build the rest of the design. If I had started with the cake layers, I ran the risk of misjudging the placement—either too high or too low. By setting the foundation first, everything fell into place.

Building the Layers of Deliciousness

The cake layers were stamped in a Lemon Lolly, a light yellow hue, to give a light and airy feel. This color makes the floral arrangement on top stand out beautifully. I started by stamping the largest light orange flower in Peach Pie Classic Stampin’ Pad ink. That created an anchor to stamp remaining flowers and greenery. This caught me off guard. I didn’t notice the “greenery” wasn’t green until making this sample myself. And, I love it! The color combination is simply striking.

The Perfect Finishing Touches

The Cake Fancy sample is a shaker card. I decided to keep it even more simple. Instead, I added a few enamel dots (Rainbow Adhesive-Backed Dots) in coordinating colors for a pop of dimension and texture. These little embellishments bring just the right amount of detail to this already cheerful design.

This card is simple enough to create multiples (I already have), yet versatile enough to change for various occasions. Switch up the cake and flower colors to suit your recipient’s personality or the season. The greeting is versatile.
