Just remember the key is pressing down on both the plastic half circles. If you try to take a short cut and press on only one, you will not get a straight cut on a sizeable piece of card stock. I must admit when cutting only an one inch wide strip of card stock I tend to only press on the top half plastic circle.

Remembering that important tip will save card stock and frustration. It takes only a split second longer to press on the bottom half circle too.
