They quietly make a lot of hand made to send in gratitude for the sacrifice each makes for us.  I believe the only reason I know of their thoughtfulness and generosity of stamping materials and time is because they made need some advice or are looking for a particular style of stamp.  Masculine stamps are a popular request.

Operation Write Home_2_2-001Isn't it heartwarming to know there are so many thoughtful, kind people?  Listening to the news, all we seem to learn about is just how awful we are capable of being.  Those stories make headlines.  People like those making greeting cards for our deployed military personnel to send home, don't make it into the news, but they do make a huge difference for that soldier and his loved ones.

One Godby With Us Stamper recently was asking me about the weight of Stampin' Up! card stock because there are minimum requirements to donating handmade greeting cards to Operation Write Home.

The card stock weight requirement is 80 pound or more.  Stampin' Up! card stock is 80 pounds.  Curious, what other requirements are there?

From the Operation Write Home website:

"Guidelines

Operation Write Home Guidelines fit into three categories:

1.  Safety for Our Heroes:  The last thing we want is to endanger those serving us.  Glitter makes them visible to night vision goggles, so it is banned.

2.  Efficiency of Operations:  Cards following guidelines and needing no extra labor are processed first, assuring they make it to our heroes most quickly.

3.  By Request:  Heroes and their families have made special requests, and we honor those – and request our cardmakers do the same."

Sure never knew that about glitter.  Makes sense.  Just as all the other guidelines do as you read them.

Did you know they even have a special stamp for the back of the card?  Not only that, but they will send one to you for free.  Read the rest of the guidelines for making and submitting cards to Operation Write Home here.

Do you also make handmade greeting cards for our military personnel to mail home?   It is a wonderful thing you are doing.  But, we all know, when we are busy going about making the lives of others better, we are the ones who really receive the blessing.

If you are one of the card making angels, please leave a comment sharing how your sharing of your time and materials has blessed you.
