As promised in my March Stamping Smiles Newsletter and on my Stamping Smiles business page on Facebook, I am giving you my review on the new Stampin’ Up! Designer Typeset Photopolymer (clear) Stamp Set.
It is packaged much like the cellophane bag for the Basic Pearl Jewels and Basic Rhinestone Jewels. Storing the clear stamp set in one of the stamp cases is probably the best solution because after a lot of use, the cellophane bag will probably eventually rip.
Opened the package and was greeted with a strong odor, certainly not flowery. Because the stamp set is so new, I cannot tell you if this will decrease over time.
The sheet the clear stamps cling to has each stamp image printed in black. If not, it would be hard to tell the smaller stamp sets from each other.
A great benefit of the clear photopolymer stamps is you can bend them to shape you want. Like the banner in my picture above, you can curve it or use it straight. It is like having at least two stamps!
Thinking the banner would be fun making each one a different color, I colored the stamp with the Stampin’ Write Markers. It was hard to see what I had colored. The stamped image was not good.
Then the information from Stampin’ Up! came back to me. Stampin’ Up! did explain the clear stamps would look best with the new firm foam stamp pads. Stamped with the firm foam Midnight Muse Classic Stampin’ Pad provided a very good image.
It was strange sensation not having the foam underneath the rubber. Not uncomfortable, just different after so many years of stamping with foam based stamps.
To be able to give you a proper review, I stamped with one of the old style pads (the 2011-2013 In Colors are the only ink pads I have not replaced). The first time I stamped with it, it was not pretty. For the second attempt, I made sure it was inked as fully as humanly possible and applied extra pressure. The second image was a lot better.
My preference will be to use the new firm foam Classic Stampin’ Pads because it was effortless. Effortless with great results should always be our first choice. 🙂
One Godby with Us Stamper shared with me of the other photopolymer stamp sets she owns, they all get inked stained. The directions from Stampin’ Up! read to clean them immediately. We will see if this practice will stop the staining experienced from other clear stamps from other companies.
Naturally, I was excited to make a quick and easy card with my new stamp set.
Stamping with letters has never been so easy! Each was stamped right where I wanted them the first time. What a treat.
At this point, I am giving the new Stampin’ Up! Designer Typest Photopolymer (clear) Stamp Set a thumbs up.
As Stampin’ Up! releases more of the clear stamps in the trial, I will purchase the stamp sets I like and let you know what I think.
