Do you know how to use two stamps in which one is fully in view and the other shown only partially, as if behind the other? The technique is called masking. This Stampin’ Up! Peaceful Petals card is a beautiful example of the masking technique.

The leaves look like they are part of the flower stamp. They are not. The card artist of the pretty Peaceful Petals card is Pat Rau. Pat explained the making technique on the Stamping Smiles Page on Facebook, “What I did was stamped my flowers first on Watercolor Paper with (Black) Stazon. Then I stamped my flowers again and cut them out. I used some temporary adhesive and placed them over the already stamped flowers. I then inked up the leaves and stamped them on. I removed my cut out flower overlays and then water colored the flowers & leaves. Sponged in some So Saffron (Classic Stampin’ Pad) in the background. I also samped two extra leaves, cut them out and using (Stampin’) Dimensionals added them to two of the leaves.”
Having a look at the stamps included in the Peaceful Petals stamp set will make this explanation clear.
