See the lighter color on the brown cardstock? It’s a leaves card colored with bleach!Stamping with bleach technique

I received this Stampin’ Up! Lighthearted Leaves card in the Founder’s Circle swap. Coloring your handmade cards with bleach is a fun technique. Have you ever tried coloring with bleach?

First you need an outline stamp or stamp set. It is best if you emboss your stamped images, as our card artist did. She stamped the Lighthearted Leaves from the 2015 Stampin’ Up! Holiday Catalog with VersaMark Pad ink then embossed the images with Black Stampin’ Emboss Powder.

As if heat embossing isn’t cool enough, you then get to “color” with bleach. My tool of choice when coloring with bleach is a dried out Blender Pen. It as a fine tip for coloring with ink, perfect for coloring with bleach.

Pour a little bleach into the bottle cap. Dip the tip of your Blender Pen in it. Color in the areas you’d like to be lighter. The reaction is pretty quick but the full results do not happen instantaneously. Be patient to see what color reveals itself. If you get impatient and keep adding bleach, you can bleach out all the color.

The embossed images do more than look good. They make it easy to keep the bleach just right where you want it.

Now that the color has been revealed, you can choose your coordinating cardstock. The bleached Soft Suede Cardstock is a good match for Crushed Curry. And anytime you emboss with black, black is an excellent choice.

Lighthearted Leaves will only be available for a short time. It is in the 2015 Stampin’ Up! Holiday Catalog Retiring List. While the retiring accessories, like the Into the Woods Elements and Gold Cording Trim she added to this handmade card, are available only while supplies last, retiring stamp sets are guaranteed to be available through December 28.
