This handmade rose card started off using die-cuts, embossing and three hand-cut roses from the gorgeous Stampin’ Up! Picture Perfect Stamp Set. After a lot of fussing and rearranging emerged my simple and elegant rose card.
The Picture Perfect Stamp Set is one of my top three favorites from the 2016 Stampin’ Up! Occasions Catalog. It was a must-have because Master Gardener Mom LOVES hummingbirds. You’ll be seeing a birthday card I make for her with a beautiful hummingbird in February. That alone was enough to make me fall head over heals for this set. The icing on the cake is it has a rose. My favorite flower. Bet you thought it was pansies. 🙂
What makes this rose so special is it’s what Stampin’ Up! calls a two-step stamp set. It takes a least two steps of stamping to complete an image. In this case, there are three stamps that are layered over top of each other using gradually darker colors of ink to build the detail and depth of color in the rose. Same for the leaves.
Isn’t it amazing how well my three colors of blue ink coordinate? That’s because I used just one color, Night of Navy, for each stamp using a technique called stamping off. Ink your stamp, stamp on scrap paper, then stamp on your cardstock.
Because there are three stamps, so the first one was stamped twice on scrap paper and then on the cardstock. The second stamp was stamped off just once for a darker version of the double stamped off but still lighter than a fully inked image. The third stamp was stamped fulling inked.
Only one stamp of the three rose stamps was stamped with Tip Top Taupe Classic Stampin’ Pad ink onto the Tip Top Taupe Cardstock. The open image provides a muted background for the beautiful blue rose.
The small Night of Navy Cardstock layer for the Tip Top Taupe provided elegance and contrast for a simple and elegant rose card.

Die-cuts and embossing often enhance our handmade cards. Just not this time. All that was ditched for what turned into a simple and elegant rose card.
