There are tools you use virtually every time you make a handmade greeting card. You may be surprised to learn one of my most used cardmaking tools is a letter opener.
After watching my husband use this letter opener to open our mail, I picked it up and gave it a permanent new home in my craft room. Because I change my mind A LOT as I’m designing hand stamped greeting cards, this liberated gadget has become one of my most used cardmaking tools.
It’s not an ordinary letter opener, this one has serrated edges making it perfect to slide between layers that have been adhered together.
Had just finished with my card for the next newsletter article when I spotted a dot of ink where it didn’t belong. So I used my serrated letter opener to remove the layers to use on a new card base.
What I was trying to salvage was the top layers because I had already messed up the card base. Some of the card is still attached, as you see, but by using the serrated letter opener it didn’t tear or bend my Basic Black Cardstock strip.
My serrated letter opener is always close by for when I change my mind about a card layer color, size, want to use Stampin’ Dimensionals, add ribbon or whatever notion comes into my mind AFTER I’ve adhered the layers together.
I’ve been wanting to share this tool with you but had no idea where my husband got it. If I show it to you, I always want to be sure it’s available to anyone who would like one too. After searching I was thrilled to find the same serrated letter opener on Amazon for only $7.07!
