If your thin metal dies are sticky, try this no fume method for removing adhesive.

adhesive-on-thinlits-die

There is adhesive still on your Framelits, Edgelits and Thinlits dies after pulling them off the strong strip of packaging adhesive. It becomes very evident after running them through your Big Shot Die-Cutting Machine. Pieces of paper embedded in your Cutting Pad stick to the dies. You can see how on my Pretty Pines Thinlits Die.

How do you remove adhesive from non-porous surfaces – like glass, plastic and metal? I grew up using lighter fluid. It works just fine, but the liquid runs off or gets absorbed in the papertowel or rag being used. And, of course, the fumes are unpleasant.

staedtler-erasersI was quite interested when Godby (God-be) With Us Stamper Margaret Garner shared her no fume adhesive remover tip. She said to use a white eraser. Her preference is Staedtler Erasers.

I saw there were some a little less expensive and asked what the difference would be. She said they should work fine but would crumble faster. Knowing we get what we pay for, I ordered Staedtler Erasers.

Miss Margaret’s instructions were to first add some water to a Silicone Craft Sheet and then dip the eraser in the water.

Dipping White Eraser in Water

Rub the eraser over the adhesive with each stroke in the same direction instead of back and forth until all the adhesive is removed.

Miss Margaret says this will also work on glass and plastic. She added if you run into some particularly stubborn adhesive to use rubbing alcohol instead of water.
