Get ready to spook up some smiles with this adorable handmade Halloween card featuring the Stampin’ Up! Playful Ghosts Stamp Set! With a fun blend of seasonal colors and whimsical details, this card is both charming and easy to create. Whether you’re crafting for friends, family, or little trick-or-treaters, this “Boo!” card is sure to add a delightful touch of Halloween spirit to their day. Read on as I walk you through the simple steps to bring this cute ghostly design to life!
The first step for my handmade Halloween card idea was to stamp the ghost popping out of the jack-o-lantern on Basic White Cardstock and then cutting out with Paper Snips. I also hand cut or die-cut before coloring just in case I don’t do as good as a job as I want. The trick to a great hand trimmed image is to leave a small border around the image. Paper Snips make this an easy and enjoyable task.
Please note: The Stampin’ Up! Playful Ghost Stamp Set is not from the 2024-2025 Stampin’ Up! Catalog. It’s pictured only in the Online Exclusives category in my online store. Online Exclusives products availability is uncertain. Most are available only while supplies last. I fully expect that is true of this Halloween stamp set because it’s a holiday set.
After you have the ghost cut out, color and shade with Stampin’ Blends (alcohol markers). Pumpkin Pie for the pumpkin, Daffodil Delight for the candle glowing through the jack-o-lantern eyes and mouth, Crumb Cake to shade the adorable ghost, Old Olive for the stem, and, if you look closely, Highland Heather for his tongue. Purple? Here’s why. I was talking to a friend when I was coloring him and asked what color are ghosts tongues? After she got done laughing at the unexpected question, her response was it wouldn’t be red or pink because they indicate blood and ghosts don’t have any. Well, that made sense. It was something I had never given any thought to before. But, that may be because this is the first ghost tongue I’ve seen. 🙂
I was using the same card sketch used for my Stampin’ Up! Tender Hearted card live video tutorial replay you can see HERE. (Join me every Tuesday at 7 PM ET for a new live card-making tutorial! You can watch it on my Stamping Smiles YouTube channel or Facebook page!) Because the ghost was cut out, it was possible to use scrapbook paper instead of Basic White Cardstock. I chose the Country Woods 12″ x 12″ Designer Series Paper and was selective where to use a circle die from the Stylish Shapes Dies.
Give the background for the Playful Ghosts card more interest with the cloud stamped twice with a Smoky Slate Classic Stampin’ Pad, and the bat & stars with Tuxedo Black. Ink the ‘Boo!’ greeting with Tuxedo Black Memento Pad and stamp in the center of the Basic White Cardstock strip. Use your Paper Snips to cut the right side at an angle.
Once that’s done, it’s time to assemble the easy DIY ‘Boo!’ greeting card. The handmade Halloween card measurements are listed below. Here are the steps:
- Use Stampin’ Seal to adhere the Brights 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper (Daffodil Delight) approximately 2-1/8″ from the top of the 4″ x 5-1/4″ Smoky Slate Cardstock.
- Continue with Stampin’ Seal to adhere the Old Olive Cardstock strip underneath the Daffodil Delight scrapbook paper, the Brights 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper (Pumpkin Pie), ending with the Basic Black Cardstock strip.
- Use Stampin’ Dimensionals to adhere the Smoky Slate Cardstock piece to the 4-1/4″ x 11″ Smoky Slate Cardstock card base.
- Use Stampin’ Dimensionals to adhere the die-cut circle as pictured.
- Use Stampin’ Dimensionals to adhere the cut out ghost
- Tie a bow from the Baker’s Twine Essentials Pack (black). Adhere as pictured with a Mini Glue Dot.
- Use a Stampin’ Dimensional only on the right side of the greeting and Stampin’ Seal on the other to adhere the greeting.
