Stampin' Up! announced today because the Decor Elements line of products will be discontinued with the new 2012-2013 Stampin' Up! Catalog, new Stampin' Up! Demonstrators will be able to choose any $9.95 item instead of the Decor Element product included in the Starter Kit!
This is great news! While $9.95 is not a high priced item, choosing an alternate item has the potential to help you in your new stamping business after May 31, 2012 (last day Decor Elements will be available as a catalog item). That is a smart business decision!
If I were a new Stampin' Up! Demonstrator choosing the contents of my Starter Kit, what $9.95 product would I pick in place of the Decor Elements?
Great question! My experience tells me to stay away from stamp sets. Why? Because I am getting several new stamp sets as part of my Starter Kit already. Unless you have a a crystal ball, will the stamp set you choose be a current Stampin' Up! product on June 1? Maybe, maybe not. Have fun playing with the new sets in your Starter Kit instead of taking that gamble.
What about accessories? Again, my over 11 years experience as a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator tells me I cannot guess with any kind of accuracy what accessories will be on the Last Chance Accessories List. I have seen complete lines of ribbon be discontinued. The same with eyelets, brads, you name it.
What are left with? Tools! Can and do some tools retire? Absolutely. But, some tools have been staples of the Stampin' Up! Catalogs. My favorite $9.95 tool is the Paper Snips. They make cutting a pleasure! I am able to easily make intricate cuts. They are comfortable to hold. They are an inexpensive product every stamper should have. Is that not something you should have as a new stamping business owner?
Look at the thought going into making a smart decision on a $9.95 product for your new stamping business. If I am giving that much thought to an inexpensive item, you can trust my experience will help you in areas far more important too. Choosing an upline that will bring experience and willingness to help you when you Join Stampin' Up! to start your own stamping business is one of the most important business decisions you can make.
